2010 - 2011 Blaze's 6th Season of Hunting Page 9
The Great Coyote Photo Contest OutdoorLife Contest Winner Feb 28, 2011 A picture of Blaze was entered in
a Coyote Photo Contest by
OutdoorLife magazine and sponsored by Nikon
scopes. I guess the photo was just
interesting enough to win. Titled
Coyote Charge. This was the Coyote
that charged Blaze during a Turkey
hunt the year
before. Blaze's pictrure
was voted in 1st Place! Big thank
you to Bonnier Corp, Nikon, and those
that voted for Blaze's picture.
March 18, 2011 Started the morning with some Hog Stalking. First I worked
Blaze into the wind through the
more managable woods on our lease. The
only time in the woods she caught
a scent with interest was in a direction
over a creek too deep to cross and
too far to walk around in time to
matter.
![]() So we moved on to the wheat fields as a wind shift worked well to work the downwind side.Blaze did wind and work one Hog from the wheat field, but the brush was too thick for me to move in. For a moment it looked like our Hog might come towards me into the open, but unfortunately it moved deeper into the brush instead of to the field. Blaze came back out and we tried to flank it, but the Hog got across a creek onto someone elses property. Will try it again come Turkey season. ![]() This was not meant to be a predator day for me, but I did carry some calls to do a couple semi serious calling sessions while on our Hog walkabout. This brush blind looked like a nice spot to get a picture of my rifle and Arkyoter predator call. Rifle is a Colt Model 02 Clone that I built using early M16 parts on a Colt SP1 stripped receiver. Call came from www.Arkyoter.net ![]() Blaze says let me try. ![]() She's quite the sharpshooter, so I figure why not. I gave up the chair. ![]() Then to my surprise, she starts calling away on the arkyoter call! No Coyotes today, but we tried. ![]() ![]() Now for something completely different. I brought along some Yo Yos to see if I could catch some channel cats to take home. We sometimes set out Yo Yos in Oklahoma where it is still legal for public water, but in Texas they are only legal for private water. I put a few out on the lease with the canoe, then tended other hunting lease chores before retrieving them. Much like running a trotline. A few Mudcats, but no Channels today. It was fun anyway. Blaze always easily amused was fascinated by them. ![]() Well, that's all folks. That was our day off. More fun than staying home and mowing the lawn that's for sure.
