German M.1888 7MM Commission Carbine
Cal.7x57, rimless
First a big thank you to Kristopher Gasior of collectiblefirearms.com who provided the pictures and description of this fine carbine. They have some very nice firearms available on their website and I recommend paying them a visit. This rifle is a very scarce German Commission Carbine in 7mm Mauser caliber! Made by C.G. Haenel in Sulhl, Germany in 1907, and marked this way on on the receiver. Little is known about M.88 carbines in 7 mm. There are unconfirmed rumors that they were manufactured for South American, or Spanish markets. Mannlicher style magazine like all M88s. This Carbine is currently for sale on the collectiblefirearms.com website and is in fine condition, with smooth patina covering all the metal parts, and very nice stock with only few handling marks. Matching numbers. Excellent bore. All complete and original. Very smooth action. Three digits serial number! Very few 1888 carbine were made in this caliber!
Dan Reynolds is the person who pointed me to this Carbine on the web and did the text on the picture on the bottom of this page for me. He felt it is possible this Carbine could have been made for Brazilian evaluation.
