Gew 88 rifle modified by the Turkish into a Carbine.
A big thanks to Sarco Incorporated who gave permission to use these pictures on my website. The Sarco website is always worth a visit.
This is a German Gew88 rifle converted by Turkey into Carbine configuration. Caliber is 8x57mm and probably had a new mauser barrel in .323 bore added during conversion in 1947 at Ankara. This short rifle conversion combines a Gew 88 action with a cut-down Model 1938 Mauser style stock, sights, barrel and bands. Receiver ring marked with Turkish writing, a crescent moon, “ANKARA 1947”. Barrel was shortened and does not protrude beyond the upper band. Gun appears little used after the conversion; bore is about excellent, metal has very thin finish, almost appear in-the-white. This rifle sold for $125.00. I am certain it did not last long advertised on the Sarco website at that price. This is only the second Turkish Modified Gew88 carbine I know of. The other one is not stocked all the way to the muzzle as this one is.
